Defining SQL Server security

The GCF Remote Access Web Service requires security permissions to access the SQL Server database. The most practical approach is to have SQL Server and GCF Remote Access Web Service reside on the same computer and to access SQL Server as the local ASPNET (Windows XP) or NETWORK SERVICE (Windows Server 2003 or higher) account.

To give SQL Server permissions to the ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE user:

  1. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager or Management Studio, open the node for the server and expand the node for the database to which you want to give permissions.
  2. Right-click the Users node and select New Database User. The Database User Properties dialog box appears.
  3. Type <ComputerName>\ASPNET in the Login name box, and then click OK.
